High court sets aside Okorocha-sponsored impeachment of deputy gov Madumere

Embattled former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, has said nothing will stop him from actualizing his ambition to become the next governor of the state.

The former deputy governor, stated this at a social function yesterday in Owerri, saying no amount of intimidation or blackmail will deter him.

It will be recalled that the state House of Assembly impeached Madumere in controversial circumstances and in disobedience of a court order.

The swearing-in of his successor, Callistus Ekenze was also halted by an Imo State High Court.

Madumere commended the people Imo for standing with him “despite the barrage of intimidation and molestation, coming from government agents”.

Vowing not to be swayed by “the illicit antics of the state government and it’s agents”, the former deputy governor thanked Nigerians for speaking out against evil.

“I am proud to be a Nigerian, following the patriotic efforts of Imolites and Nigerians at large, to call evil by it’s ugly name. I am happy that illustrious and patriotic citizens of Nigeria have lent their voices in condemning the ill-fated onslaught against me”, he said.

The Prince of Mbaitoli also singled out some lawmakers, who he said rejected financial and material inducements and chose to bear the pain of suspension in standing with him.

According to him, “keeping quiet in times of injustice for temporary comfort is like piling up the devastation of unquantifiable measure of evil.”

Calling on the people of the state to rise up against what’s going on in the state, Madumere said: “Rise up and fight for your right. Do not allow anyone to usurp your freedom of expression, association and freedom to aspire to be whatever you wish to be. We must fight for equity, fair play and justice. It is only when we have these ingredients in our society that we can make the needed progress.”
