Imo govt to provide ranches for indigenes willing to go into cattle business

Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has stated that the state government is willing provide cattle ranches for indigenes who want to go into the cattle rearing business.

The governor stated this when members of Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim led by its Supreme Head, the Prelate, His Eminence, Solomon Alao, visited him at the Government House, Owerri, the Imo State capital.

When asked if it was true that the state government has created a cattle colony as proposed by the Federal Government, the Imo State governor said, “There is a cattle market in the state and not a cattle colony.”

He further said that his government is encouraging Imo indigenes to go into cattle business saying that it is lucrative and that his government will not cease to support them by providing ranches for their cattle.

Okorocha frowned at those associating Fulanis with killer herdsmen, saying that it was absolutely wrong for people to do that.

The governor meanwhile, condemned herdsmen that indulge in wanton killing of innocent Nigerians, but said that they should be seen as criminals and dealt with according to the provisions of the law.

For him, “It is absolutely wrong to associate the Fulanis with the killer-herdsmen,” he said adding that “herdsmen who kill should be treated as criminals, and should not be used to stigmatise the Fulanis, whose men and women had largely contributed to nation-building.”

According to him, “The fact remains that no one in this country has the right to take another person’s life in whatever disguise. For herdsmen to kill anybody is not right and that must be condemned.”
