Obaseki orders aides not to respond to Oshiomhole's attacks against him

The All Progressive Congress (APC) crisis in Edo State took another shape on Saturday after the convoy of Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, was attacked by irate youths near the Iyahmo country home of the party’s National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole.

The governor and the monarch were in the vehicle with the Pro-Chancellor of Edo University, Iyahmo, Prof. T.O.K Audu when the youth allegedly sighted one Andrew Momodu, the man alleged to have led the attack on the former governor’s home in Benin City.

A group of youths suspected to be political thugs had on October 12 attacked Oshiomhole’s residence in the Okoroutun area of the Government Reservation Area (GRA) in Benin City.

On that occasion, the youths gathered around the residence, chanting “Oshiomhole ole,” and waited for him to come out of the building, but they were dispersed by security agents who quickly cordoned –off the area.

In the heat of the crisis, state police command and some parties loyal to Oshiomhole gave different accounts of the alleged attack on the APC chief’s country home in Benin City.

Saturday’s attack took place after Governor Obaseki and the other guests had attended the inaugural convocation ceremony of the Edo University at Iyahmo, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State.

They had gone to Oshiomhole’s home on a courtesy visit before the irate youths pounced on them in what many had described as a reprisal attack after last month’s incident in Benin City.
