More than 600 new Covid-19 cases have been reported within the last 24 hours in India.

According to the country’s Health Ministry, the surge in cases was linked to a religious gathering held in a mosque at New Delhi in March.

The ministry says that all 647 cases directly linked to the gathering have been identified and isolated across 14 states and union territories.

The New Delhi government who had earlier banned public gatherings in the state said it would be taking strict actions on the organizers of the religious gathering.

“We are being told that a lot of people left this mosque and went to different parts of the country, it is scary to think how many people might have been impacted by this incident.” Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said.

Meanwhile, the recent figure has caused a 26% rise in Covid-19 cases in India with 3,082 confirmed cases and 86 deaths according to the Johns Hopkins University.
