3 dead, 1 missing as Indonesian plane crashes into home

Tragedy struck on Wednesday morning when an Indonesian air force plane which was on a routine maintenance flight crashed into a home in the island of Java, killing the pilot and two other people in the house.

According to a senior air force chief, Air Marshal Agus Supriatna, one person is still missing in the crash which occurred near the Abdul Rahman Saleh air force base in Malang, a hilly town in East Java province.

Supriatna informed that moments before the crash, the pilot and a technician on the Brazilian-made Embraer EMB 314 Super Tucano plane, while sensing a loss of control, ejected before it crashed.

“The pilot was found dead near a rice field about 8 kilometres (5 miles) from his parachute, while the technician is still missing. The man and a woman living in the house died while being treated at a hospital, ” he said.

Speaking to MetroTV after the crash, a neighbour who witnessed the crash, said; “The plane appeared to be nose-diving out of control with smoke billowing from its tail when it crashed”.
