INEC approves 5 of 95 applications, bringing political parties to 45
Ahead 2019 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has registered five new political parties.
The addition now brings the total number of political parties in Nigeria to 45.
The new parties registered were among 95 associations the electoral body recently said applied to be registered as political parties in Nigeria.
The new parties are Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA), Young
Progressive Party (YPP), New Generation Party of Nigeria (NGPN), All
Democratic Peoples Movement (AdPM), and Action Democratic Party (ADP).
The development was contained in a statement released by INEC’s National Commissioner and chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Prince Adedeji Soyebi, in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to him, “At present, 95 Associations have applied to the Commission for registration as political parties. Two of the associations voluntarily withdrew their applications.
“The Commission today approved the applications of five of the associations which have fulfilled the constitutional requirements for registration,” he said.
Meanwhile, one of the new registered parties, APDA in a statement by its Interim national publicity secretary, Asandian Hogan, has said it was coming to redefine partisan politics and political administration in Nigeria.

Nigeria being a multi-party Nation, many people have are now more conscious about politics due to the performances of the previous and present administrations, it is good to have more political parties that will enable Nigerians discharge their rights to vote and to be voted for.

It would have been good if these new parties have good motives, I’m very sure they registered because they want their own piece of the National cake and embezzle public funds. None of them can be trusted

Those inec registered are based on bourgeois colouration. Those unregistered are neophytes in politics. Let’s see the shakability of these new political parties
