INEC cancels governorship election in 3 Cross River LGAs

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has cancelled Saturday’s governorship election in 23 polling units in Abi Local Government Area of Cross River State.

According to the electoral body, the election in the polling units were cancelled because of violence and snatching of electoral materials.

The collation officer for Abi LG, Prof. Simon Odey Ering, announced this while presenting the result for the governorship election in the LG.

“16,170 registered voters could not vote because of ballot box and ballot paper snatching and other violence in 23 polling units.

“Some of the affected polling units are in Imabana, Ekureku, Itigidi, Ediba, Ebom and Igoligoli”, Ering said.

Also in Odukpani local government area, election was cancelled in 11 polling units owing to violence.

The returning officer for the local government area, Mr. Ashiru Emmanuel, disclosed this while presenting the result for the local government area.

Similarly, election was cancelled in 16 polling units in Yakurr local government area due to violence, the collation officer, Dr. David Imbua said.
