INEC declares Plateau guber election race inconclusive

The governorship election in Plateau State has been declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The Returning Officer in Plateau State, Prof Richard Kimbir, who spoke at the state INEC headquarters on Monday said that the election was inconclusive based on the leading margin of 44,929 votes and total number of 49,377 votes that were cancelled.

Kimbir said:

“Going by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, I am constrained to say that the election to governorship position is inconclusive. In 21 days, supplementary elections will be conducted.”

According to the results presented between Sunday and early Monday morning, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Simon Lalong, garnered 583,255 votes in 11 local governments with a margin of 44,929 while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Jeremiah Useni, gained 538,326 votes.

2,480,455, voters registered while 1,147,025 voters were accredited.

Kimbir added that 1,138,987 votes were valid while 16,691 votes were rejected leading to 1,154,678 total votes cast.
