INEC declares Wike winner of Rivers governorship election

PDP raises concerns over safety of Wike's aides, others in Army, SARS custody

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Nyesom Wike, candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Rivers state governorship election, Governor-elect.

After a prolonged electoral process, the collation of results from the 21 local governments was concluded on Wednesday.

The PDP candidate, who is also the incumbent governor, won with a margin of 712,405 votes ahead of his closest rival.

INEC said that Wike polled 886,264 votes ahead of Biokpomabo Awara, candidate of the African Alliance Congress (AAC), who garnered 173,859 votes.
