INEC fixes date for supplementary election in Adamawa after court ruling

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has swiftly fixed a date for supplementary governorship elections in Adamawa State.

The electoral body has now fixed March 28 according to reports by TVC for the supplementary governorship election in the state following a court ruling giving INEC the go-ahead to do so.

Following the nod from the court, INEC, had while reacting on its official Twitter page, said, ”Following the discharge of the injunction stopping the supplementary governorship election by the Adamawa State High Court in the case instituted by the Movement for Restoration and Defence of Democracy (MRDD) against INEC the Commission will now proceed with the supplementary election on a date to be made known before the end of work today.”

Justice Abdulaaziz Waziri of a Yola High Court lifted the interlocutory injunction stopping INEC from conducting supplementary election in the state following a suit filed by Mustapha Shaba, who represented the governorship candidate of the Movement for the Restoration and Defence of Democracy, Eric Thema.

The suit challenged the omission of MRDD party logo from the ballot papers used by INEC for the first governorship election in the state on March 9, 2019, stating that it affected the chances of the governorship candidate of the party at the polls.
