INEC fixes Feb'16, 2019 for Nigerians to decide Buhari's fate

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Saturday 16th February 16, 2019, as the date for the Presidential and National Assembly elections in Nigeria.

It also announced that the governorship, state assemblies and Federal Capital Territory  (FCT) Area Council elections will hold on Saturday, March 2, 2019.

This was announced by the commission’s national chairman, Professor Yakubu Mahmood, on a series of tweets on INEC Twitter handle.
According to him, the 2019 general elections is exactly 505 days away from Thursday, September 28.
He said, “The Presidential and  National Assembly elections have been fixed for Saturday 16th February 2019. While the Gov. State Assembly and Federal Capital Territory(FCT) Area Council elections are fixed for Saturday 2nd March 2019.”
The INEC chairman said that in the ongoing voter registration exercise that “2,786,405 citizens have been registered out of which 1,619,513 (58 per cent) are Male while 1,166,892 (42 per cent) are female.
“In addition 108,752 unclaimed PVCs were collected. 132,431 requested for transfer while 26,429 requested for replacement of their PVCs.
“We wish to assure Nigerians that INEC will continue to explore ways by which we can improve on all the processes associated with the ongoing CVR
“As you are aware, the foundation of a free and fair election rest on credible voter register, ” Prof. Mahmood.

    Next year is just going to be extremely interesting, Buhari’s final working year in office before political campaigns start at the end of Q2. Buhari has less than 12 months to prove his competence to Nigerians, I’m sure he’ll do better this coming year.
