INEC registers ‘All Blending Party’, 20 others; sacks 2 staff over Kogi Gov’s alleged double registration

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has registered 21 new political parties, including All Blending Party (ABP) and Justice Must Prevail Party (JMPP), bringing the total number of political parties in Nigeria to 67.

INEC also dismissed two of its staff and compulsorily retired another for acts of misconduct in the matter of alleged double registration of Kogi State‎ Governor, Yahaya Bello.

Information released by INEC on the matter, titled ‘FINDINGS ON THE KOGI DOUBLE REGISTRATION’, stated as follows:

“Following reports of the alleged double registration by the Governor of Kogi State in the on-going Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, the Commission set up a panel of investigation into the involvement of staff in the matter.

“The initial report submitted by the panel was referred to the Appointment, Promotion and Disciplinary Committee, which made recommendations to the Commission. While the Governor of Kogi State currently enjoys immunity from prosecution, the Commission took the following decisions in respect of its own staff:

  1. Summary dismissal of two staff for acts of gross misconduct
  2. Immediate and compulsory retirement of an Electoral Officer for act of gross misconduct”.

The statement was signed by Mrs. May Agbmuche-Mbu, INEC’s  National Commissioner & Member, Information and Voter Education Committee.
