INEC releases time table for Melaye's recall

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday released the timetable and schedule of activities for the recall of Senator Dino Melaye.

Melaye represents Kogi West senatorial district.

The INEC Secretary, Mrs Augusta Ogakwu, who issued the timetable on behalf of the electoral body, said it is in exercise of the powers conferred on the Commission by Sections 69 and 110 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended); Section 116 of the Electoral, Act 2010 (as amended) and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf.

According to the timetable, INEC will on August 19, conduct a verification of signatures of petitioners demanding Melaye’s recall.

The commission would also on the same day declare the outcome of the verification at the INEC Local Government Office in Lokoja.

Mrs Ogakwu added that the commission would issue the timetable and schedule of activities for the conduct of referendum subject to the outcome of the verification exercise.

Signatories of the constituent asking for the recall of Sen Melaye had been collected and submitted to INEC earlier.

But the senator who alleged that many of the signatures were forged had also approached the court to stop the process of his recall.

INEC however, claimed it was yet to receive any court notification on the recall issue, and therefore was set to go ahead with it.

This Dino recall of a thing is political. It’s just a tussle of power between Bello and Dino, well they are on their own. Mine is Biafra

Our politicians are heartless! They can go to any length to proof their superiority for anyone. It’s really not deserving to want Dino out because he wants him o know he’s in charge

Dino Melaye will learn how to stop being unnecessarily controversial and being a talkative by the time he’s kicked out of the house!

When two elephants are fighting, the grasses surfer the most. People calling for Dino’s recall will end up having someone worse than him. Dino may be controversial, but the he’s representing the state very well.
