Injured Ibrahimovic vows to return stronger

Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic has vowed to come back “even stronger” after suffering a serious knee injury during their Europa League clash against Anderlecht last Thursday.

Ibrahimovic and defender Marcos Rojo are likely to miss the rest of the season after scans revealed they both have suffered cruciate knee ligament injuries.

Speaking before Sunday’s 2-0 win at Burnley, United manager Jose Mourinho, when asked about the players’ return, said the medical department have not been “specific” adding that the “players want to see other specialists.”

But the 35-year-old Swede, who has scored 28 goals this season, is positive about his return, and has said that injuries will not decide his future in the game.

“First of all, thank you for all the support and love,” Ibrahimovic, United’s top scorer this season, wrote on his Instagram account on Sunday.

“It’s no news I got injured so I will be out of football for a while. I will go through this like everything else and come back even stronger. So far I played with one leg so it shouldn’t be any problem.”

“One thing is for sure, I decide when it’s time to stop and nothing else. Giving up is not an option,” he added.

Ibrahimovic joined the Red Devils on a free transfer from Paris St-Germain last summer but is yet to agree an extension to his one-year United deal.

However, United are fifth in the Premier League standings, and will face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium later this week, before facing Arsenal and later Tottenham Hotspur.

In their quest for the Europa League title, they will face Spanish side Celta Vigo in a two-legged semi final next month, as they hope to make it to the finals.
