Injury stops Iheanacho, to miss Tanzania match

Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho is doubtful for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier billed for September 4, 2016 in Uyo after getting injured during Manchester City’s second leg playoff game against Steaua Bucharest at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old pulled up a hamstring injury while sprinting to reach a pass, and was immediately replaced by Brazilian midfielder, Fernandinho in the 76th minute.

Iheanacho, who netted 14 times for City in all competitions last season, has never scored in the UEFA Champions League.

The former Flying Eagles striker was instrumental to City’s lone goal of the night after connecting with a Yaya Toure pass in the 56th minute. He played the ball outside of the box to an onrushing Jesus Navas, whose cross found Fabian Delph, who nodded down past Steaua goalkeeper Valentin Cojocaru.
