INSECURITY: NEC orders decentralization of Police operations

The operations of the Nigeria Police Force is to be decentralized for more effectiveness in the face of challenging internal security situation in the country.

This was the outcome of the National Economic Council, NEC, meeting chaired by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday.

NEC has also set up a committee to oversee the decentralization, the National Security Adviser, NSA, Babagana Monguno said at the end of the meeting.

Monguno, who was accompanied by Governor, Abubakar Badaru and Deputy Governor of Benue State, Benson Abuonu to brief the press after the meeting, said the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, will head the committee with representatives from the six geopolitical zones.

According to Monguno, the current security challenges facing the country are abnormal, adding that challenges can’t be completely tackled within a short a time.
