Investigators probe Trump's former lawyer over $20m loan

Michael Cohen, a former lawyer of US President Donald Trump is under probe by Federal prosecutors over $20 million (15.68 million pounds) in loans obtained from taxi businesses owned by him and his family.

According to a report by the New York Times, the loans are part of an investigation into whether Cohen committed bank and tax fraud, and for possible campaign law violations linked to a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

The newspaper citing people familiar with the matter, said the loans were from Sterling National Bank and Melrose Credit Union, two New York institutions that do business with the taxi industry.

The probe is coming a day after White House Counsel Donald McGahn was reportedly interview for 30-hours as findings into Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential polls gathers steam.

According to New York Times, McGahn cooperated extensively with the special counsel investigating Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election.

The report added that the White House’s top lawyer shared detailed accounts about the episodes at the heart of the inquiry into whether President Donald Trump obstructed justice at the last polls.
