Director-general (DG) of the Department of State Services (DSS) Lawal Daura has thrown more light on why the former Delta State governor, Ibori, was picked up by his operatives upon arrival into Nigeria on Saturday.

Ibori who was released from a London prison in December after about four and half years behind bars upon conviction for defrauding his home state, came into the country on Saturday.

Though his media team denied he was taken away by security operatives, Lawal revealed that he was invited for debriefing.

The DSS DG told newsmen in Abuja, that he met with Ibori. “He met me for a short debriefing session and way forward; also, to welcome him back to his fatherland. We are also meeting soon to discuss issues of interest affecting the nation,” Daura said.

A UK court had convicted the former governor of fraud in 2012 and jailed him for 13years.

Ibori who later stormed his homeland in Oghara Delta State, via Benin airport by a chartered flight, was welcomed home by a crowd of cheering supporters, who were later treated to free food and drinks.
