The Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into allegations of salary deductions and unpaid promotion arrears for personnel of paramilitary agencies.

This followed complaints from officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), and Federal Fire Service (FFS) on salary deductions and unpaid promotion arrears.

In a statement issued on Sunday by Ahmed Ja’afaru, Secretary to the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB), the minister ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.

He urged the personnel to remain calm while the government investigates the allegations raised.

“The Board wishes to assure our dedicated officers of its commitment to achieving a swift and positive resolution to these matters,” the statement read.

The allegations of salary deductions and unpaid promotion arrears have been a long-standing issue, with some personnel of the affected agencies threatening to embark on a nationwide protest.

In response to the allegations, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) spokesman, Abubakar Umar, had Lal clarified that protests by uniformed personnel were against regulations, and urged aggrieved officers to utilize proper channels to redress their grievances.

The spokesman for the NSCDC, Babawale Afolabi, also revealed that the Corps Commandant-general, Dr. Abubakar Ahmed Audi, had already addressed the issue, promising that all problems related to salary deductions would be resolved by the end of the month.

The Federal Government assured the personnel that the investigation will be thorough and that their concerns will be addressed. The government has also called on the personnel to remain calm and to allow the investigation to run its course.

“Consequently, the Honourable Minister/Chairman of the Board, Hon. (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has directed that a comprehensive investigation be carried out forthwith by the Board on the matter while calling on officers of the paramilitary services to remain calm.

“The Board wishes to assure our dedicated officers of its commitment to achieving a swift and positive resolution to these matters,” the statement issued by Ja’afaru added.
