Iran denies Morocco accusations

A day after Morocco severed ties with Iran accusing it of supporting the Polisario Front, a Western Saharan independence movement, Tehran has denied the claims made by Rabat.

While denying the claims, an Iranian foreign ministry spokesman told local media that the allegations were “completely baseless” and Iran respects the sovereignty of all countries.

“One of the principles of Iranian foreign policy is recognising the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries and not intervening in their internal affairs,” spokesman Bahram Ghassemi said.

Morocco through its foreign affairs minister, Nasser Bourita, accused Tehran of providing financial and logistic support to Polisario Front through Lebanese proxy Hezbollah.

Bourita, said Rabat has evidence that incriminates the Iranian government, which assisted Hezbollah in providing financial as well as logistical support to Polisario through its embassy in Algiers.
