IRAN: Violent clashes break out as citizens demonstrate over high food & fuel prices

Violent demonstrations and clashes continue to trail protests by scores of disgruntled Iranian citizens who are protesting against the rising costs of food items and fuel for the third day running.

Described as the largest in nearly a decade, demonstrations have continued for the third consecutive day in a number of cities across Iran, despite officials calling on citizens to avoid “illegal gatherings”.

Reports say the protests sparked by anger over Iran’s ailing economy, have gained momentum and has turned violent, video footage shows.

Videos filmed elsewhere in the country show protesters setting fire to police vehicles and there are reports also reports of attacks on government buildings.
