Iran’s biggest oil buyers succumbing to US pressure, reports say
Tehran is now experiencing relative economic shutdown as its biggest oil customers are succumbing to US pressure to stop doing business with Iran, reports say.
The move is coming as the US secretary of state Mike Pompeo called on European allies to take a harsher stance against Iran, which he accused of violating UN resolutions.
In a series of tweets on Thursday, Pompeo said; “We must cut off all funding the regime uses to fund terrorism & proxy wars. There’s no telling when Iran may try to foment terrorism, violence & instability in one of our countries next”.

Recall last week that Tehran put pressure on the European Union to avoid a snap-back of US sanctions as doubts continue to linger over the implementation of economic package among remaining signatories of Iran nuclear deal following a meeting in Vienna.
The Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif during the meeting in Vienna called on European powers to implement economic measures to protect the 2015 nuclear deal before US sanctions against Tehran comes into effect between August and November.
The Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had earlier said that Donald Trump’s administration is unaware of the consequences of the oil ban imposed on Tehran.
Rouhani in a statement in Tehran last Wednesday warned of the consequences of such a move noting that his country will stand firm against threats by the United States to halt Iranian oil shipments.
