ISIS offensive thwarted in Iraq

An attempt by ISIS militants to infiltrate a residential compound near a strategic air base in western Anbar province of Iraq was thwarted by security forces according to reports.

The assaults in the town of Al-Baghdadi involved armed militants who were killed in a counter attack, Col. Mohammed Ibrahim, spokesman for Iraq’s Joint Operations Command said.

Ibrahim also revealed that the town’s police chief, Lt. Col. Mashkoor al-Gighaifi, was among the casualties but he didn’t say how many members of the Iraqi forces were killed in the foiled attack.
