Israeli court orders continued detention of Palestinian teen activist and her mother

More protests are expected to erupt in the West Bank region after an Israeli court ordered the continued detention of 16-year-old Palestinian activist Ahed Tamini and her mother until the end of their trial.

Tamimi faces 12 charges, including aggravated assault and throwing stones, while her mother faces five charges, including incitement for uploading the video on social media.

However, Ahed’s lawyer revealed that the charges against Ahed and her mother also include older incidents not related to the viral video shared on social media.

Three days ago Palestinians from various villages in the occupied West Bank who gathered in Nabi Saleh to demand the release of Tamini and her mother were chased by Israeli forces who used teargas to disperse the crowd.

Reports say Israeli forces had stationed themselves at the entrance of Nabi Saleh an hour before the protest, preventing many foreign activists and journalists from entering the village after which they dispersed protesters with teargas.

According to residents who spoke with Al Jazeera, the teargas fired by Israeli forces caused gas inhalation to dozens of protesters with at least seven demonstrators injured by rubber bullets.
