It’s time to leave opposition, join mainstream politics, Tinubu support group tells Ndigbo
The rallying cry for greater unity in Nigeria received a boost recently as a group, South-East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA) called on politicians in the region to move away from the opposition and integrate Ndigbo into mainstream politics to attract greater development and prosperity for the South-East.
Coordinator of the group, Belusochukwu Enwere while speaking at its empowerment programme in Owerri, the Imo state capital over the weekend, argued that by joining hands with the government at the federal level, leaders in the south-east would attract the dividends of democracy to the region faster.
He, therefore, called on political leaders of south-east extraction to provide guidance and support to rally round the administration of President Bola Tinubu for effective leadership in the country.
Enwere who hailed the economic policies and reforms of the Tinubu-led administration called on Nigerians to key into the initiative and support the government, noting that the benefits of the reforms would lead to economic prosperity for Nigeria in the long run.
Speaking further on the reforms put in place by the current administration, he said that the local government autonomy would enhance development at the grassroots, while the tax reforms were aimed at boosting businesses by reducing excessive and multiple taxations.
On the empowerment programme by SERHA, Enwere explained that it aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda objective of President Tinubu to connect citizens to government policies and ensured they benefited from the dividends of democracy, and uplifted enterprising Nigerians by supporting their skills and businesses to drive economic growth.

The programme, he said, seeks to empower thousands of youths and women across the South East region.
“The first phase of the empowerment programme, went with financial support distributed as follows: 100 SMEs received ₦200,000 each. Another 100 individuals received ₦100,000 each. 200 SMEs were given ₦50,000 each. 500 indigent families received ₦20,000 each.
“In addition to the financial aid, skilled individuals were provided with tools such as sewing machines, grinding machines, and other equipment to support their businesses. Beneficiaries also received bags of rice,” he said.
According to Enwere, who is also the National President of the Youth Wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), the ultimate objective of the program is to “empower thousands of youths and women across the South East region”, adding that the group would continue to support, women and the youth, whom he described as the bedrock, and drivers of sustainable development in any society.
In a keynote address at the event, Professor Frank Aneto from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri who spoke on the topic, “Empowering South East Nigeria for Economic Emancipation and Prosperity,” underscored the importance of youth empowerment and political emancipation in unlocking the region’s economic potential.
