I've surpassed achievements of all my predecessors put together, Gov Okorocha boasts

Despite ugly reports from Imo State over alleged bad governance by Governor Rochas Okorocha, he has boasted of surpassing the “grand total” of the achievements of all those who had governed the state before him.

Okorocha said this in response to attacks on his government and achievements by the national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Oye.

Oye was reported to have also said that APGA would never accept Okorocha under its platform again.

Recall that reports had claimed that Okorocha, following the apparent loss of control of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State to some party stakeholders in the state led by his own deputy, Prince Eze Madumere, had tried to return to his former party APGA, but was rejected.

However, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha said that if APGA cannot fly again without painting him black, it should “wind-up and fuse into the APC”

The statement read in part, “APGA should, as a matter of fact, wind-up and fuse into the APC if the party cannot fly again without brandishing Governor Rochas Okorocha’s name in a quite unfortunate manner.

“Innocent Nigerians who have been following events in the past three months would agree with us that the APGA elements have decided to be using Governor Okorocha’s name to market their party but in a very wrong way. First, they came up with the ridiculous story of Okorocha wanting to return to APGA. And they never said anything that could convince anybody to believe them.

“They never said whether he wrote to them or approached any of them, or even sent people to approach them on his behalf. They also did not mention what could be the attractions in APGA this time, that could make the Imo governor thinking about returning to a party he left with the soul and dropped it on the APC table. We kept quiet and never talked to them.

“Few days ago, …Oye had a press conference in Abuja and the target was Governor Okorocha. Chief Oye heavily insulted the Imo governor unprovoked and unwarranted. He talked about how the party would not accept Rochas again, without telling the world whether there was any application from Okorocha to that effect.”

The governor added that Oye played down his monumental achievements in Imo.

“And in case he (Oye) has not read our claims on the governor’s achievements in Imo, we may repeat it here for his sake. What Governor Okorocha has achieved in Imo as governor have surpassed the grand total of the achievements of all those who had governed the State before him. We expect him to challenge us on this claim if he so wishes.”

Okorocha’s running battle with stakeholders of APC in Imo State is believed to have followed his alleged failures, which the party members feel may cause troubles for the APC in the state if the control of the party structure remains in his hands.
