Iwobi in action, Lacazette scores but Arsenal fall to Man City

Super Eagles forward, Alex Iwobi was in the starting XI as new signing, Alexandre Lacazette’s goal could not save Arsenal from defeat at Manchester City on Sunday.

Kevin de Bruyne’s driven finish in the first half and a Sergio Aguero penalty on 50 minutes put the home side cruising at the Etihad Stadium.

Though substitute Lacazette pulled one back for Arsenal in the 65th minute, Gabriel Jesus sealed victory for the home side from close range exactly 16 minutes to stoppage time.

Arsenal were aggrieved at the penalty awarded for Nacho Monreal’s challenge on Raheem Sterling as well as the goal of which Jesus appeared to be offside.

“At 2-1 we got back into the game and we were in it, we had time to search for the equaliser but the third goal makes a huge difference,” said Arsenal keeper, Petr Cech after the defeat.

Indeed, if it hadn’t been the saves of goalkeeper Petr Cech and the wastefulness of the hosts, the Gunners would have been beaten more.

City have now won 15 consecutive matches in all competitions and a ninth successive league win, equalling a club record for a single season.

The Pep Guardiola’s side will travel to Leicester on Saturday, 18 November, following the international break, after Arsenal host Tottenham in the north London derby.
