Iwobi ruled out of Cameroon showdown due to injury

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have suffered an injury blow after forward, Alex Iwobi, is ruled out of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon with thigh strain.

The 21-year old was to have joined the Eagles training camp in Uyo Monday after he would have featured for Arsenal in a Premier League game at Liverpool on Sunday.

But he will now miss the double header with the Indomitable Lions as the injury will reportedly keep him out till the second week of September.

But, as a replacement for the team ahead of the crucial tie, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has replaced the Arsenal ace with CSKA Moscow striker, Aaron Samuel, who was placed on the standby list of invited players for the encounter.

A tweet on the official handle of the Nigeria Super Eagles reads: “Just in: Aaron Samuel called in to replace injured Alex Iwobi. Uche Agbo also invited.”

Nigeria will host the Indomitable Lions on September 1st at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo; and the reverse fixture a week later.
