Ize-Iyamu moves to reclaim mandate, gets tribunal’s nod to inspect election materials

The Edo State Election Petitions Tribunal has ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to allow the Peoples Democratic Party and its canmdidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, to inspect all the materials used for the September 28 governorship election in the state.

The tribunal, led by Justice A.T Badamasi, made the order while granting the prayers of a motion ex parte brought by the PDP and Ize-Iyamu, on Tuesday.

It would be recalled that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Godwin Obaseki, was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. the PDP and other parties that participated in the election however kicked, calling for its cancellation.

Counsel for the PDP, Kingsley Obamogie, who said the application to inspect the materials was brought before the tribunal in line with Section 151 of the Electoral Act, 2010, as amended, explained that the section empowered the party to institute a motion ex parte to pray the tribunal to inspect all the electoral materials used for the September 28 poll.

In its ruling, the tribunal ordered INEC to allow the party access to all the electoral materials used for the poll.
