Jega’s regret as he bows out

Published

on

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega has revealed that his only regret as he bows out as the electoral umpire was his inability to create a separate salary structure for INEC workers.

Jega, who spoke in Abuja during a retreat to review the report of the 2015 elections, recalled that he made an undertaking on the issue but was unable to achieve it due to the difficult conditions the commission operated on.

He advised whoever will succeed him that staff welfare remains one area he has to work on as INEC strives for improvement in future elections.

Jega also used the occasion to access his reign, scoring himself a pass mark though he acknowledged that there is a lot of room for improvement.

He also insisted that he would leave INEC after the expiration of his tenure.
