The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seems to be sinking deeper into crisis, with its ranks splitting further by the day, as a faction within the party has scheduled a parallel national convention to pick its executive officers.

The faction composed of former governors and former ministers amongst others has scheduled May 21, for its own convention to hold in Abuja.

This is against the earlier announcement by the party that it would hold its national convention on the same day in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

It was gathered that a former minister of information, Prof. Jerry Gana has been picked as national coordinator for the factional convention committee.

Reports say the faction planning the parallel convention met at Daar Communications in Abuja on Tuesday where they took the decision.

The Abuja convention is being planned by a group known as The Concerned PDP Stakeholders, which is made up of 12 other groups within the party.
