Ahead House resumption, Jubrin resurfaces, rallying colleagues to push Dogara out

The embattled former Chairman of the House of Representatives on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has alleged that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and three other principal officers of the House tried to kidnap him.

Jibrin, who said this in statement on Tuesday, was reacting to an invitation extended to him by the All Progressives Congress, APC, to appear before a committee of the party, on the crisis in the House.

Jibrin said in the statement: “My attention has been drawn to media reports going round that I have been summoned to appear before a disciplinary committee of our great party. I wish to state as follows.

He said “I only received a letter yesterday evening inviting me to a meeting in respect of the current crisis in the House today by 2pm at the party’s secretariat. The letter did not in anyway indicate it is a disciplinary committee.

“And I have responded that I will attend the meeting despite my tight schedules shuttling between security and anti corruption agencies to provide support and evidence against Speaker Yakubu Dogara and 9 others.

“The Party had stated that it has made several attempt to reach me through calls and text messages. I did not receive any, even if I did, it would have been very difficult for me to attend because of the attempt by the QUARTET of Speaker Dogara and others who were determined to abduct or kidnap me until few days when my lawyers requested and got maximum protection for me from the DSS and police.

“I am confident that the party will do the rightful thing by throwing its weight to support our resolve to wipe out corrupt people and institutional corruption in the House and prevail or direct Speaker Yakubu Dogara, Deputy Speaker Yusuf Lasun, Whip Alhassan Doguwa and Minority Leader Leo Ogor to reconvene the house immediately and Step aside to face their imminent prosecution and save the party and our dear country further embarrassment.”

It would be recalled that Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, APC, Kano, had been on war path with the Speaker Dogara after he was relieved of his position as the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation.

He accused the speaker, the deputy speaker, Lasun Yusuf, Chief Whip, Alhassan Doguwa and Minority Leader, Leo Ogor of padding the 2016 budget to the tune of N40bn.

He also accused the speaker of other sundry offences, including influence peddling and forcing multinational companies and MDAs into granting him some unmerited favours.
