Jigawa records 1 COVID-19 death, extends lockdown order to 3 more LGAs

The Jigawa State Government has confirmed the death of one person who tested positive for the feared COVID-19 disease in the state.

Dr. Abba Zakari, Chairman COVID-19 Task Force in the state, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen, Wednesday night, also added that the state had also recorded five new cases in four more local government areas.

According to Dr. Zakari, the local government areas where the new cases of the virus were recorded include; Dutse in the State capital, Gwaram, Auyo and Miga local government areas.

Abba who explained that the state had so far recorded nine coronavirus pandemic cases across the state, also noted that Governor Abubakar has ordered the lockdown of the affected four local government areas for one week, with effect from midnight of Friday.

This comes a day after the Governor Abubakar ordered a total lockdown in three local government areas in the state after the samples of three patients tested positive for COVID-19.

Governor Abubakar who revealed this on Tuesday night at the Government House while briefing newsmen informed that the affected local government councils include Gumel, Birnin Kudu and Gujungu in Taura local Government Areas.

The Governor who stated that the lockdown will commence on Thursday, 30th April, 2020, by midnight also explained that the lockdown would enable the task force on COVID-19 to identify primary and secondary contacts of the patients.

He also called on the communities to cooperate with the government in its efforts to curtail the spread of the pandemic.
