The Jigawa State Government has confirmed that it has recorded its first COVID-19 case in the Kazaure Local Government Area of the state and has thus declared an immediate lockdown.

This was disclosed to newsmen in the state capital of Dutse on Sunday by Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar who revealed that the victim returned from Lagos and was isolated for weeks and his samples returned positive.

Governor Badaru noted further that the state government has ordered a lockdown in Kazaure Local Government from Monday midnight to prevent a possible spread of the virus.

“I urge people of the state to be vigilant and alert the local government COVID-19 task force on anybody who returned from another state,” he added.

This comes days after the state government explained that the state’s first confirmed positive case of COVID-19 belonged to Kano State, but was receiving treatment in the state.

This was stated by the Chairman of the state’s COVID-19 Task Force, Abba Zakari, at a press conference in Dutse on Friday.

According to him, the case was recorded in Kano, and as a result, it was listed as one of the 21 cases confirmed in Kano as of April 16, 2020.
