Jobless Ph.D holders get reprieve

The National Universities Commission is to establish a data portal of Ph.D holders in the country, to ensure that they get befitting employment.
Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Prof Julius Okojie who stated this Friday in Abuja, lamented that a good number of universities in the country seeking the services of such Ph.d holders were unaware that many of them are also looking for jobs.
He said, “It is amazing seeing the numbers of Ph.D holders that come to my office and say they are looking for jobs. On the other hand, many universities are looking for Ph.D holders to employ. We will create a portal that will serve as a pool from which the universities can engage such people,” he added.
He said the nine newly approved private universities had been directed to institute a credible staff enrollment programme.
On the establishment of many of the private universities in Ogun State, he said they were all on merit, adding that several other factors might have informed the decision of the proprietors to site them in Ogun State.
“Ogun State has a good access from many states. Lagos does not have land anymore but it has a very huge population.
“Lagos is very close to Ogun and the proprietors look at the facilities in Lagos such as the international airport, seaport, and transportation among others,’’ Okojie said.
