J’oburg set as MAMA Awards 2016 returns
It is just six weeks to the sixth edition of the of the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) 2016 and a year after the city of Durban hosted the cream of African music stars to a night of reward, another South African city, this time, Johannesburg, has been chosen to host this year’s edition of the annual music awards.
Set to light up the stage at this year’s edition of the awards scheduled to be staged at the Ticket Pro Dome in Johannesburg are the trio of Nigerian singer Yemi Alade, South African Hip-hop act Nasty C as well as South African singer Babes Wodumo of ‘Wololo’ fame among other stunning performances from other African and international artists.
Meanwhile, as a prelude to this year’s awards, a dazzling line-up of artists led by Patoranking, YCEE, Skales, Simi, Runtown, Coker and many more will rock the stage at Lagos’s annual Road to MAMA party, taking place at the Hard Rock Cafe, Lagos on Sunday 2 October.
The event will also be used to announce nominees in 7 different MAMA categories, including Best Female, Video of the Year and Artist of the Year.
As a tradition, nominees are selected by the MAMA “academy”, a group of opinion formers and professionals from the world of music and entertainment who create a shortlist based on the artists and musicians who have received airplay on the channel between 21 March 2015 and 23 August 2016.
