‘He joined us for nights like this’ – Costa return excites Simeone
Atletico Madrid boss, Diego Simeone has again celebrated the return of Diego Costa to the club after the forward’s first-half strike spoiled Arsenal’s Europa League dream.
The Spain international, who rejoined the club last January from Chelsea, netted the only goal of the semifinal second leg clash on Thursday night, to help Atletico advance to the Europa League final.
“It was for nights like this that Costa joined us,” Simeone told reporters in his post-match press conference.
“He provided the fury and intensity that we needed, to be able to force opposition players into mistakes and assist his other teammates.

“We played a strong game, we suffocated their counter attacks and while we suffered a bit, we also missed chances too.
“This success is due to loyalty, not from just me and my players but also the staff and volunteers who work so hard and loyally.
“This is an important step for another title but we know Marseille are a very difficult team and it will require a massive effort in order to triumph in the final.”
Atletico will meet Marseille, who saw off RB Leipzig also on Thursday, in the final in Lyon on May 16.
