Jonathan’s ex-aide mocks Buhari as Martin Luther Kings’ family denies award to president

A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has castigated the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari over the denial by the King Centre that it gave any award to Buhari.

The presidency had sent out reports on Tuesday with pictures stating that the family members of African-American Human Rights Activist, Late Martin Luther Jnr had conferred the First Black History Month National Black Excellence and Exceptional African Leadership Award 2018 on President Buhari.

Many of his media aides had put up posts on their social media handles announcing the award.

The Presidency had even after the visit tweeted on its handle, “President @MBuhari today at the State House received Martin Luther King Jnr’s family. He was also conferred with the 1st Black History Month National Black Excellence and Exceptional African Leadership Award 2018.”

However, The King Center, the official memorial body of Martin Luther King Jr., established in 1968 by Mrs. Coretta Scott King, wife of the renowned American activist, has distanced itself from the award presented to President Buhari.

The King Centre in a tweet on Wednesday night stated that the Center, Mrs. Coretta Scott King, and the children of Martin Luther King Jr. were not involved in presentation of any award to Buhari.

“The award given to President Buhari of Nigeria was not given by The King Center, at the request of The King Center or by the children of Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King,” the tweet read.

In an apparent mockery of the president, Omokri said he had wondered how a family as Martin Luther King would come to Nigeria to give an award to a “tyrant” and a “nightmare”.

Sequel to this denial, Omokri wrote, “Thank God @TheKingCenter denied that they gave an award to Buhari or asked Nigerians to reelect him.

“I was wondering how Martin Luther King‘s family will visit Nigeria to give an award to a tyrant!

“Their father had a dream and they came to Nigeria to associate with a nightmare?”

The presidency is yet to react to the new development.
