Joy turns sadness as graduate losses leg amid euphoria of graduation ceremony

Celebration went sour for a sociologist graduate who lost her leg to a motor accident after her final paper at the weekend in Kogi state university.

The unfortunate incident happened at the famous Idachaba Lecture Theatre of the Faculty of Social Sciences in the university.

The final year students of sociology department were in Idachaba LT 2 writing their final papers which will automatically veer them as graduates.

The lady, whose name could not be ascertained as at press time, on finishing her papers, was said to have sat on the pavement outside the examination hall waiting for her friends to also finish the exam so they could hit the town to kick off the celebration galore of becoming fresh graduates in the usual tradition of final year students in most higher institutions.

Her dress was already designed with inks to mark her “done and dusted galore”.

Also, her course mate who had also finished the exam came out of the exam hall to meet his ‘big boy’ friends who were already waiting for him, so they could also kick off their own celebrations.

On exiting the examination hall, the young man collected the car key of one of his friend’s car parked closed to the LT, and went straight into it to do some stunts as a way of expressing his ecstasy of becoming a graduate.

An eye witness at the scene said unfortunately, he did not know that the car’s gear was in reverse mode as he ignited the engine.

The car, according to witnesses, reversed towards the lady sitting on the LT pavement and crushed her leg.

Other students at the scene rushed down to the scene, and conveyed the lady into the same car to a hospital.

The incident was said to have been reported to the Anyigba police station.
