Abducted Bayelsa Commissioner, Otokito, regains freedom

Bayelsa State Commissioner for Commerce and Investment, Mr Federal Otokito, has regained freedom four days after he was abducted.

Otokito was released by his abductors on Monday according to the chief press secretary to the State Governor, Mr Daniel Alabrah, who made the disclosure in a terse statement.

The commissioner, who was kidnapped at his home in Ogbia Local Government Area of the state on 20 January, was tortured so badly by his abductors.

With body injuries, Otokito was presented to Bayelsa Governor Douye Diri on Monday evening following concerted efforts by security agencies.

The state police command has also declared some persons wanted over the incident.

Speaking after Otokito was presented to him, governor Diri thanked security agencies and the government for their efforts in ensuring the commissioner’s freedom.

It was however not stated whether or not any ransom was paid to secure Otokito’s release.
