Anambra Assembly members drag court, Obiano, CP into plan to impeach speaker

Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker, Rita Maduagwu, has been impeached and replaced by another.

Her impeachment was endorsed by 20 out of the 30 members of the House on Tuesday following her alleged financial impropriety, gross misconduct and sundry allegations.

During the House plenary on Tuesday, Ikem Uzozie, who represents Aguata II constituency, had moved motion for her impeachment. He was immediately seconded by Onyebuchi Offor( Ekwusigo constituency).

Soon after, Uzozie who moved the motion for the impeachment of the former Speaker was appointed by the House as the new Speaker.

Recall that the former Speaker had in 2017, absconded with the Assembly Mace after 28 members of the House assembled and made efforts to impeach her.

It took the intervention of the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, to plead with the lawmakers to allow sleeping dog lie.
