Don’t make justice a commercial commodity to ‘rapacious elite’, CJN urges judges

An application by the embattled Chief Judge of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen challenging the jurisdiction of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) to hear the false asset declaration case against him has been declined.

The three-man Tribunal while delivering judgement on Thursday stated that the defendant was not being charged as a judicial officer but as a public officer.

Chairman of the Tribunal, Danladi Umar held that the constitutional powers of the Code of Conduct Bureau shall not be subject to any body of the NJC rules.
