One-time FIFA Best manager of the year, Claudio Ranieri has been appointed as the manager of AS Roma of the Italian Serie A on Friday.

Ranieri, who was sacked by Fulham just eight days ago, is making a return to the club he managed between 2009-2011.

The new job marks his 19th managerial role, as he replaces Eusebio di Francesco, was sacked on Wednesday after losing 4-3 on aggregate to Porto in the Champions League last 16.

Ranieri famously led Leicester to the 2016 Premier League title – a feat that earned him several awards.

“I’m delighted to be coming back home,” said Ranieri.

“When Roma call you, it’s impossible to say no.”

Roma president Jim Pallotta said: “We are delighted to welcome Claudio Ranieri back to the club.

“We have one objective remaining this season and that is to finish in the highest possible league position and secure qualification for the Champions League.”

Roma, who lost 3-0 to city rivals Lazio recently, are three points behind fourth-placed Inter Milan in the Serie A.

67-year-old Ranieri will be in charge when Roma host Empoli in the league on Monday.
