INEC had declared the election in the state inconclusive on grounds that the total number of cancelled votes exceeded the margin between the first and the second positions, and had fixed March 23 for a supplementary poll.

Ahmed Umar Fintiri, candidate of the PDP had polled 367,471 votes, while the incumbent governor, Jibrilla Bindow of the All Progressives Congress (APC), scored 334,995 votes.
