El-Rufai imposes 24-hour curfew on Kaduna

The Kaduna State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna town and environs with immediate effect.

The development was announced by the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Nasir el’Rufai on Media and Publicity, Mr Samuel Aruwan stated on Sunday in Kaduna.

The governor also stated on his official twitter handle: “This is a notice of a 24-hour curfew imposed on Kaduna town and environs, with immediate effect.

“Residents are advised to comply by this directive.

The decision has been taken in the best interest of the state”.

Crisis broke out in Kasuwan Magani in Kajuru Local Government Area of the state recently when some youths in the area clashed.

Speaking on the incident, the Kaduna State Police Command confirmed 55 people dead, and that 22 suspects are already being quizzed in connection with the mayhem.

Police Commissioner Ahmad Abdur-Rahman had told reporters that normalcy had been restored by mobile and conventional policemen as well as a team of the state joint security Operation Yaki, despatched to the town.

It was the latest crisis in the area after a similar mayhem last February claimed 10 lives.
