Lagos Assembly speaker, Obasa, impeached

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has been impeached by the lawmakers.

He was impeached by 32 members of the House for alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office at Monday’s plenary in Alausa, Ikeja.

The lawmakers had since elected the member representing Apapa 1 State Constituency, Mojisola Meranda, as the new speaker of the House.

Meranda is the first female speaker in the history of the Lagos Assembly.

Obasa was appointed the speaker of the House in 2015.
