The Federal Government announced on Thursday that it was shifting the resumption of international flights by one week, meaning a new date of September 5.

The Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Musa Nuhu, disclosed this at the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 daily press briefing in Abuja.

The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, had earlier this month announced that international flight operations would resume at the country’s airports on August 29.

Sirika, who disclosed this at the PTF briefing at the time, said the services would resume at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, in the first instance.

But at Thursday’s briefing, Nuhu said aviation stakeholders still need to address certain grey areas before international carriers would be allowed to operate in the country.

The Ministry of Aviation also confirmed the new date on its Twitter handle.

It wrote: “Regret to announce that the international flight resumption earlier scheduled to resume on August 29 has been shifted to September 5, 2020.”
