JUST IN: Ondo House of Assembly impeaches Speaker, Deputy

The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Bamidele David Oloyelogun, was on Friday impeached his colleagues.

Removed alongside the speaker, was the Assembly’s Deputy Speaker, Ogundeji Iroju.
The impeachment of the former principal officers of the House on Friday was endorsed by 18 members.

Soon after they were relieved of their positions, the lawmakers quickly selected and swore in Olamide George as new Speaker of the house.

For the position of the Deputy Speaker, Abimbola Fajolu was selected and was also sworn in by the lawmakers.

On why the former principal officers of the Assembly were impeached, the chairman of the House Committee on Information, Fatai Olotu, told newsmen at the Assembly complex that they were booted out on issues that have to do with financial impropriety, incompetence and high handedness.

Recall that the Assembly had also in 2016 impeached its first female speaker, Jumoke Akin, over similar offences.
