ALLEGED MOSQUE DEMOLITION: Wike takes Fayemi on site tour, says he has nothing against Islam

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has triumphed over the African Action Congress (AAC), backed by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This followed the ruling of the Supreme Court on Friday, which upheld the ruling of Rivers State Governorship Election Tribunal that dismissed a petition by AAC governorship candidate in the 2019 governorship election, Awara Biokpomabo Festus.

The tribunal had dismissed Biokpomabo’s petition challenging Wike’s victory for lack of merit.

But the Appeal Court, in its ruling on the matter reversed the ruling of the tribunal.

Consequently, Governor Wike filed two appeals against the decision of the appellant court before the Supreme Court.

Ruling on Wike’s application on Friday, a seven-man panel of the apex court, in two unanimous judgments, upheld the two appeals by Wike on the grounds that they were meritorious.

The ruling was delivered by Justice Ejembi Eko.

APC, which following a court order did not file any candidate for any elective position in Rivers State during the 2019 general elections, had adopted and supported AAC and its candidate during the election.
