In efforts to ensure the immediate release of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria on Thursday embarked on a simultaneous protest in Lagos and Abuja.

In Lagos, they trooped out in hundreds with photographs of their leader in a peaceful walk around Maryland.

They were noticed calling for the immediate release of their leader with several songs against the government.

Meanwhile, the protest in Abuja again turned violent as their members had another encounter with Nigerian police operatives at the federal secretariat in Abuja.

The incident made the police to cordon off the road in front of the secretariat while the protesters chanted, “Death to Buhari, death to America.

”I will never surrender, I will never support injustice…I will never surrender or support injustice.”

It would be recalled that the last protest ended in a confrontation between the police and the protesters. The situation has, however, remained tense.

The police, however, succeeded in dispersing the protesters with bullets and teargas canisters.

Workers and passersby all left the street as policemen engaged the protesters.
